Built by Educators.
From Inside the System.

STRIVE Innovation Labs was born from a simple conviction: the people best positioned to build AI literacy solutions for schools are the people who work in schools. Not tech entrepreneurs. Not venture capitalists. Educators.

Why We Built This

Every day, in schools across the country, students are using AI without structured guidance. Teachers lack the tools and training to integrate AI literacy into instruction. And districts have no comprehensive, implementation-ready solution to bridge that gap.

We didn't wait for someone else to solve this. We are not a startup born in a tech incubator. We are educators who built solutions from inside the system — in real classrooms, with real students, under real constraints. That is our competitive advantage, and it is one that no venture-backed ed-tech company can replicate.

Together, we created two complementary innovations: the STRIVE Framework, a research-grounded K-12 AI literacy curriculum architecture, and LIA2, a privacy-first AI platform that gives districts AI tools that are safe, standards-aligned, and pedagogically grounded. Together, they form a complete ecosystem: the curriculum teaches how to think about AI; the platform provides a safe space to practice it.

Meet the Team

Steven Hornyak

Steven Hornyak

Co-Founder

An 18-year veteran of public education who began his career as a high school math teacher and has since served in leadership roles spanning school improvement, accountability, data analytics, and instructional technology. Steven currently serves as Chief Innovation Officer for the Houston County School District — serving 31,000 students in central Georgia.

Steven designed the SMoSS accountability system used across 38 schools, built the Intervention Express platform, and led the expansion of the district's virtual learning program.

With over four years of dedicated experience working with large language models and AI systems, Steven created the STRIVE Framework and the C3 meta-competency model — the curricular and intellectual backbone of everything we build. His deep understanding of how AI reshapes teaching, learning, and institutional decision-making positions him as one of the leading practitioner voices in K-12 AI literacy. Steven doesn't just study AI in education — he architects the systems that put it to work in real classrooms, at scale.

Jake Harvey

Co-Founder

A middle school STEM teacher and CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) advisor who brings deep expertise in project-based learning, student-centered instruction, and hands-on technology integration.

Jake advises multiple student clubs and has a practitioner's understanding of how students actually engage with technology in the classroom — not in theory, but in practice, every day.

Jake created LIA2 — the Local Interactive Artificial Intelligence Assistant — an air-gapped AI platform designed to run on local hardware, giving schools access to large language model capabilities without sending student data to the cloud. His work represents a breakthrough in privacy-first AI deployment for education.

Our Core Values

01

Educators First

We are educators building for educators. Every product, every decision, every partnership is grounded in the reality of classrooms, not boardrooms.

02

Equity as Architecture

Equity is not a feature or an add-on. It is the foundation. We design for the students and schools who have been left out of the AI conversation — as the starting point.

03

Depth Over Hype

We don't chase trends. We build solutions that go deep — teaching students not just how to use AI, but how to think critically about it and create responsibly with it.

04

Privacy Without Compromise

Student data belongs to students and families. Our technology is built with privacy as a non-negotiable design principle — from air-gapped deployments to data-sovereign cloud solutions.

05

Built to Implement

Frameworks and whitepapers don't change classrooms. Implementation-ready tools, practical training, and ongoing support do. We build what educators can actually use on Monday morning.

06

Partnership & Transparency

We operate as true partners — with the districts we serve and the educators we equip. We're honest about what works, what doesn't, and what we're still learning.

Let's Build AI Literacy Together

We'd love to learn about your district's goals and share how STRIVE can help you get there.
